Dawgs Swept the Floor With Cambridge
By: Aaron Bass
Last week the FCHS Baseball team faced region rival Cambridge in a three game series. However it was not played like a rivalry, more like a domination. Central's three starting pitchers Parker Morrison, Ethan Hankins, and Ryan Cox all pitched aces as in 17.2 combined IP they only gave up 2 earned runs and struck-out 22 batters faced. But it wasn't just the pitched that was A1. Centrals bats were Red Hot as they tallied a total of 19 runs in 3 games including two longballs by Luke Sutko and Taylor Bauman in the first game of the series. After the sweep Central's baseball team is on a five game win streak and look like they will not let up anytime soon.
Talent vs. Experience Doesn't Matter When You Have Both

Last year our Ultimate Frisbee Team took the state by storm in their inaugural year after finishing 7th overall in the state tournament with a 11-7 win over in county Rival Lambert. But the expectation are high as this year 3 of the top 4 teams from last year lost a combined 58 players from there roster. As our Dawgs only lost three. With team of 18 people this Roster looks fierce as they return First Team All-State and team Captain Madison Head, and Deep threat Ashton Melton-Paul to the line-up. Co-Captain Ryan Hill said it "If we don't compete for the title I will be utterly disappointed" But with 5 freshman who have never played before that look to develop and have already done so as they have started the season already 4-3 as the Woodward Invitational Runners up as the knocked off #2 Brookwood 7-6.
Key losses from roster : Harrison Keller, Micheal Mospanyuk, and Jonah Anderson
Key Returns : Madison Head, Ryan Hill, Ashton Melton-Paul
Key Adds : Nate Parker and Dean Mulekvics

Finish, Finish, Finish!!!

A lot can be assumed from an overall record, but thats not how this team operates. This years Boys Lacrosse Team is full of experience as they return seniors Wes Bacastow, Remy Williams, and Mathew Johnson. As they also added 5 underclassman that can really make a difference as off the bench players. Last year the Boys finished 5-11 with crushing losses to Cambridge and Pinecrest Academy, but that not all to the story, the bulldogs had the opportunity to finish with an 8-8 record but lost 3 games after losing the lead late in the game. The worst would have been Pinecrest, as a in-county team it already had high stakes and bragging rights, But after losing a 5-0 lead in the second half all of that was lost. But this year is different, the boys look to finish out there games and no longer give up so many comebacks.
Key Loss from roster : Ryan Fitzpatrick
Key Returns : Wes Bacastow and Remy Williams
Key Adds : Yet to be Determined

With a young team this years Girls Lacrosse team is still trying to set themselves apart from the other spring sports. After having a slow season lat year this years team is looking on stepping it up. Led by Seniors Elizabeth Pirrello or "EP" and Maddie Goldberg they look to have an above .500 season. Which may be a challenge after losing Caitlin Howell, Rachel Fratt, and Hannah Smith to graduation last year, but this isn't a rebuilding year, no. They are reloading returning a number a starters and adding Freshman talent like Ansley and Britney that are expected to have a break out season.
Key Losses from Roster: Caitlin Howell, Rachael Fratt, Hannah Smith
Key Returns : Elizabeth Pirrello, Maria Hansen, Maddie Goldberg

Postseason Antics
Our Girls Basketball team took a half to wake up, but when they did it was electrifying. Down 21-6 at halftime Saturday night to Cass at the Region Tournament, the girls came out with determination and intensity to come back to claim a 50-41 victory. I do believe there was some motivation as well for the girls to ensure Julie Richards would get her chance for history. Coming into the game 20 points short of 1,000 for her career, Julie willed her team down the stretch scoring number 1,000 on a late free throw. See the picture of her and her proud coaches.
The Boys Basketball team came out shooting and took the lead right from the start vs. River Ridge Saturday afternoon. CJ Smith was on fire from the three point line and our defense smothered RR most of the game for a 59-39 win.
Both teams advance in the Region 7-5A tournament that FCHS is hosting. Please come out and support their quest for a state tournament bid. One more win for each and they are in. Girls play Sequoyah Tuesday at 8:30 and Boys also play Sequoyah on Wednesday at 4:00. Thank you to everyone that has made the tournament a success thus far. Dawn Dirst & Kaelin Farrington sitting behind the table for 8 games on Saturday, getting delirious towards the end of the last game which went to double OT. Coach Dirst sweeping the floor for the umpteenth time between games, Dylan McCarter there for every minute for any medical assistance, Vince Cardoso working the brand new sound system, and of course none of this would be possible without Jimmy Pagel, The Tournament Director. Only guy I know that can have his cake AND eat it too. See the picture for proof.
What a great end of the season for Swim & Dive. Thursday at Georgia Tech for the GHSA Dive Championships, Micah Gilliam came in 9th while Megan Kasper placed 16th. See the pictures of the two of them.
The Swimming portion of the championships were Friday and Saturday. Ashley Cesario earned two bronze medals for coming in third in both the 500 Free and the 200 Free. Logan Belt placed 5th in the 200 IM and 6th in the 100 Free. Our Girls 200 Medley Relay came in 18th with the best time of the season.

Three of our FCHS Wrestlers qualified for the State Championship to be held at the Gwinnett Arena this coming week. At the East Sectionals at Lanier HS, Sebastian Legarra (220), Hunter Kurowski (126) and Abraham Perez (106) all will be finishing their season this week in pursuit of a State Championship.
See the picture of Seabass.
Our Tennis teams opened competition last week vs. Lanier HS. The Boys were victorious in their first match while the Girls fell short. Both teams are back to the court this Tuesday at Central Park vs. Chestatee.
The Girls and Boys Soccer teams held at scrimmage at Alpharetta last week to get their season ready to go. The Girls lost 3-0 and the Boys fell 3-1 but both teams showed a lot of promise against a strong foe. They kick it for real this week with two game vs. county rivals North and South.
The FCHS Gymnastics team had their first meet on Saturday. Not only did the team finish in 1st place, beating South and West, but the score was high enough to count as one of two qualifying scores to compete in the preliminary state meet in April. Sophomore Lauren Gist placed 1st on Floor Exercise, 3rd on Beam, and 3rd on Bars, while senior Maecie Winter placed 3rd on Floor Exercise and 3rd on Vault. Please congratulate these girls and the rest of the team. Our next meet is February 20th against South, West, and Lambert. See the picture of the team.
The ORIGINAL FCHS 60 Years of Artistry opened Friday night at the Forsyth County Courthouse with around 130 guests. The exhibit will be on display until March 4th. Please be sure to go by and see the immaculate artwork.
Finally our Baseball and Lacrosse teams get going with games this week to begin their seasons. We have a lot of activities our students are involved with, please be sure to get out and support all they do.

All Dawgs Know How to Swim

“It's not who put up the fastest time in the world that year,or who's put up the fastest time in the previous year, but who can get their hand on the wall first today”

F.C.H.S Swim and Dive team are more eager than ever to beat their personal best this year and bring home a trophy. Their dedication to the sport has been shown these past few years. They have also been spreading the word about their new Junior program as they inform inform Children the ages 7-14 about swim and dive to hopefully spark an interest for future highschoolers who currently attend Cumming Elementary, Otwell Middle School. This year they look to be a state qualified team and not just individuals. They look to be led by seniors Micah Gilliam and Maecie Winter, as in the first two meets they have already qualified to go the state championship meets. Look to see these Dawgs rise through the ranks.

Pssh, Seniors? Who Needs Seniors?
By: Emily Corwin
This year’s wrestling team “yields a lineup of young and aggressive wrestlers,” in the words of head coach Jeremiah Walker. With 25 wrestlers, no seniors, and half the lineup consisting of freshman, this team will have lots of potential and lots of improvement. Last weekend, the wrestling team went 2-3 at the Longhorn Duals; Coach Walker says that the team is “not worried about competitors.” His goal this year is to send as many wrestlers past area to state, after sending three wrestlers to compete in the state championships last year. Coach Walker says that “what they lack in technique, they make up for in aggression.” Coach Walker’s wrestling team has lost seniors Hunter Lamm, Stefan Lucien, Caleb Troutt, Nathan Kistler, Knight Bankston, and Kit Pillow; hopefully, this team full of new faces will gain as many wins and accomplishments as last year’s team did.
Diebel's 172 Rushing Yards Leads FCHS to Fourth and Final Win
By: Aaron Bass
Central ended their slow season on a high note as they defeated Woodland-Cartersville 36-10 after a huge boost from Senior Captain Shaun Diebel.
After a very fast start from the Bulldog offense to go up 7 nothing on just three plays including a 13 yard run by Diebel, but afterward they hit a stutter. After a touchdown by Woodland to tie the game at 7 all Senior Running back Remy Williams fumbled on the ensuing kickoff which led to a pivotal turnover. to Give Woodland a chance to take a 14-7 lead, but they were unable to convert as they turned the ball over after a 4th down stuff by The Bulldogs. But another special teams turnover as Woodland blocked a Jacob Woodard punt which led to another chance for Woodland to take the lead but yet again The Wildcats were unable to convert after a 35 yard missed field goal. After back-to-back special team turnovers the Bulldogs turned it around including a 34 yard carry by Senior Full-Back Cameron Daube to put the Dawgs up 14-7.
The next Central score came from a 7 yard rush by Diebel to go up 22-7 after a two point conversion. But Woodland would answer with a 47 yard bomb of a field goal to lessen the deficit to 22-10. But the next and final two scores came way from the Bulldogs with a 48 yard toss from Sophomore QB Brad Thiltgen to Diebel and a 5 yard rush by Sabrian Howard as the Dawgs win 36-10 and finalize their season with a 4-6 record.

Defense Sputters As Dawgs fall to Bears
By: Aaron Bass
After a dominate performance on senior night by Central they started off the game with a 21-14 lead over the Cambridge Bears as Shaun Diebel rushed for his second score with 3 minutes left in the half. After that start however the Bulldog was not able to stop the bears run game as Cambridge Runningback JD White rushed for 233 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead the Bear to a dominate second half as the Bears put up 22 unanswered points to win 36-21 over Central.
As in the second half Cambridge's Kaelin Byrd score a 15 yard TD run to tie it at 21 a piece. And the ensuing drive by the Bulldogs Jagger Haertshorn threw what would be his only pick of their game. The very next play JD White busted a 30 TD scamper. to go up 29-21. And after another stop by the Bears defense their offense led the way to a 2 yard TD run by Byrd. Put the Bears up 36-21 to all but seal the game and seal Cambridge's 7th win and Central's 6th loss as the Bulldogs are officially eliminated from Playoff contention. But it was not all that bad as Runningback Shaun Diebel rushed for 82 yards and 2 TDs on just 12 carries. As this Friday the bulldogs will try to end the season with win at Woodland.

The Region 7 AAAAA Cross Country race took place at Boling Park this Wednesday, which is home to the Warpath Invitational. After two days of steady rainfall, this course went from a fast-paced course to a miserable and muddy death trap. Our Varsity and JV teams raced against thirteen other schools that were determined to head to State. A the Varsity Boys placed first overall winning The Region in Back to Back years and this year will try for state. Dawgs snap 5 game losing streak as they defeat North Spring 56-14. Shaun Diebel is the first player in Central history to rush, receive, and pass for a touchdown as he tallied 240 all-purpose yards and accounted for 3 touchdowns. As he could have solely defeated the Spartans on his own. Shaun Diebel wasn't the only person to go off as the offense as a whole totaled 426 yards to North Springs 179 as Central's Defense held North Springs offense to only 50 yards in the whole second half and held them to three shutout quarters.
After a 14-0 start for North Springs it seemed as if the Seniors ignited the rest of the team to turn it up as they scored 42 unanswered points over the span of two quarters. As in the third quarter a forced fumble was returned for a touchdown by Cedrick Dorsey to be his only touchdown of his career at FCHS. But that wasn't the only defensive touchdown as Senior Aubrey Blackmon return a interception for a Pick-Six in the fourth quarter to finalize the 56-14 win. On Senior Night Central had four different seniors score Touchdowns. After the game I caught with Coach Williamson as he stated he was extremely proud of his boys and how the seniors were tremendous leaders leading a 14 point comeback that soon led to a 56-14 smack down.
Central improves to 3-5 as they will try to win their last two games and hope they can get a GHSA State playoff bid. And if they can keep up this play they could make it to the playoffs.

Central Holds Jackets To Only 9
The Bulldog defense had a little help as The Yellow Jackets star Trey Sermon was absent from play Friday for unknown reasons and it was obvious the Yellow Jackets missed him as they where only able to amount 300 yards of total offense and 9 point as the Bulldog defense came ready to play. But so did Srayberry's DJ Worthy as he amassed 178 yards on the ground and he would score the only touchdown of the game in the second quarter to put the Yellow Jackets up 6-0.
Even Central's specials team showed up as they blocked a field goal in the third quarter that would have been the knock out blow. However the Bulldog offense was unable to convert as they went three and out. As that would be the only time the offenses fell short. As an offense that has averaged almost 250 total yards of offense has been held to under 175 yards in three of their five loses. As the pre-season hype for Shaun Diebel may have been too much for the senior to handle as he has yet to reach 400 yards this season, but Junior Sabrian Howard has stepped up to the plate as he has had four 100 yard games this season and show promise for next year already.
However Friday was not the case both Diebel and Howard could only combining for under 100 yards on the ground as Jagger Hartshorn was only 4 for 12 for 17 yards. It seemed as if the day wouldn't end. With both defenses playing as if they were the two best in the state, but lack of offense led to dawgs demise.
Hopefully with 3 more games to go our dawgs can finish on a positive note.

Records on Records
The Warpath Invitational course is known to Forsyth Central’s XC team as the best course to set a new Personal Record . Warpath Invitational is located at Cherokee High School, where over 42 different schools competed. And of all 42, our bulldogs came away as #1.
For the Varsity girls, many personal records were set ; Bonnie McKinnon finished with a time of 19:39:04, which not only beat her personal best time by eight seconds, but also was a national elite runner status time. Shana McLochlin set new personal best also with a time of 20:51:90, while Ashley Malone also set her record by thirty seconds with 21:20:10. With all of those personal records set, there was no doubt the girls ould move up in the rankings. As The Varsity girls moved from ranked 10th in the state to 6th in the state for AAAAA.
The Varsity boys placed first overall in the race, with Senior Cole Gizelbach leading the team with a time of 16:33:84. Senior Will Hasse finished just two seconds behind Cole and Frehman Calan Gizelbach followed with a time of 16:40:22. Senior Wes Bacastow finished with a time of 16:49:73, beating his personal best from last year’s Warpath time by 53 seconds. A improvement no other person in the state accomplished. Our Varsity boys are currently #1 in Class AAAAA and the current state favorites.

Turnovers Kill Dawgs Rushing Attack
Central Forsyth Bulldogs played a live game against Cass last Friday night 9/11/2015. The game was aired on fox 5's game of the week and was voted by the Central Crazies in huge numbers. Unfortunately the Central Bulldogs lost after they were unable to stop the powerful run game of Cass's offense. It all started with a 4th and goal stop by Central at the 1 yard line, but on the first play from scrimmage the dawgs gave the ball right back with a fumble by Shaun Diebel. Diebel would show ball security trouble as he would fumble again in the second quarter. With the backs having trouble finding openings Junior Quarterback Jagger Hartshorn put the team on his back as he broke a 60 yard run fro a touchdown in the first quarter and would later throw for a 21 yard touchdown before the half expired. Along with running the ball the kicking game proved lackluster as Micheal Corona would miss the first PAT and would be benched later. Central would go on tot lose 42-18 on regional TV. Leaving the bulldogs with a 2-1 record and a yearning for victory next week against Kell.
I spoke to Cameron Daube and asked, " How is the team preparing for next weeks game against Kell?" he replied,
" We have been practicing harder than we ever have this season."
I also spoke to the starting running back Shaun Diebel and asked him,
"What do you believe the greatest barriers of the team were and he replied,
" I think blocking and controlling the ball on offence were are greatest barriers, but we've been working hard and are ready for our game against Kell this Friday!" That they will be. Come out this Friday and support your bulldogs as they take on Kell

Dawgs Run "Cats" Raged
Our Varsity football team began this season with a statement. After a 28-8 victory of Dawson County our Bulldogs put up over 225 yards on the ground as Junior Sabrian Howard led the team with 112 yards on 16 carries follwed by Jagger Hartshorn with 69 yards on 7 carries. But the turning point for the game was a 25 yard Pick-Six by Linebacker Sebastian Legarra to put the dawgs up 14-0 by the end of the first quarter.
The Dawgs however in the second quarter were blanked as they enter the half winning 14-0. But then in the third quarter Harsthorn scored his second touchdown of the night with a 10 yard carry for the six points. Then with 10:57 left in the game Sabrian Howard broke a 20 yard sprit to find pater to put the dawgs up 28-0.
Coach Williamson showed he was dis-blessed with the boys performance in the first half but was very impressed with the defense throughout the game. As they forced a key turnover in the first.

These Girls are on Fire
Last Thursday our Varsity Softball team (5-4) defeated Riverwood (0-3) 17-0 after a massive 11 run first inning. Through out the game every single starting player got on base and collected a run, as they kept the bases load for the whole inning. But that all ended after Sophomore Karah Straub ripped a 2 Run Double to put the girls up 7-0 in the bottom of the first. And clean up batter Alexa Hull belted a 1 run triple to put the Lady Dawgs up 9-0. But it was not just the bats that were hot but Freshman Pitcher Gina Fishler (2-0) was playing like a bat out of Hades collecting 5 strike outs in 3 innings pitched to receive her second win.
After the 17-0 rout the girls were all smiles as they extended their winning streak to five as Coach Farrington believes these girls can reach GHSA playoffs. And if they keep up this kind of play they could compete to the State Title. The Varsity Girls next game will be Tuesday September 1st at Sprayberry (4-4), Go get'em girls.

Softball and rain do not mix, just ask Kaelin Farrington. Last week was exhausting for the girls as three games were rained out, this not taking into account two trips to GAC trying to finish the last half inning up 10-1. SoSaturday's dry tripleheader was welcomed. The girls won two out of three including a dramatic 3-2 win over North Forsyth to cap off the night!
The weather did not stop the Volleyball team from seven matches last week. The team started strong with victories over Providence and Archer Tuesdaynight. Thursday we fell to Collins Hill in a very close match. After another victory Friday night in the opener of the Forsyth Challenge, the girls had a tough Saturday dropping their three matches.
The Football season officially begins this coming Friday night. Take a quick trip north on 400 to see us battle Dawson County.
Cross Country finally gets their season underway with their opening meet, the Bob Blastow Invitational in Whitesburg Saturday morning.
Competition Cheer is still a few weeks from their initial competition, but you can see a Sneak Peek Saturday morning in the Arena at 11:00.

Ground n' Pound
Last Friday our Bulldogs host North Forysth in a Pre-season scrimmage. The first half of the games had to two schools varsity team duke it out. In those 24 minutes our dogs put up over 150 yards of total offense and two touchdowns on the ground with Junior running back Sabrian Howard finding there way to the promise land capping a 80 yard drive to put the Dawgs up 7-0. However North answered with a drive of their own to tie the game at 7 all. But after a change at the Quarteback position Junior Quarterback Jagger Hartshorn came in the clutch completing 3 of his 4 pass attempts including a 36 yard connection with Senior Running Back Shaun Diebel who after breaking multiple tackles found his way into the end zone. To put the Dawgs up 14-7 before the half came to an end.
As the second half to around the game had changed, now the Junior Varsity and Freshman teams went head to head, as the players changed so did the game. Now it was North who was in control. The Raiders blow up in all factors of the game. Their defense held the Dawgs pointless for the whole second half the their offense was firing on all cylinders, breaking hug runs left and right putting up two touchdowns in the process. Giving North the 14-0 victory in second half.
The second half gave cause for concern on the future of Central's football program, but the time is now and it is time for our Dawgs to bring an end the 14 year playoff drought. \

School Sports For This Week
What a great scene Friday night as our Bulldogs took on the Raiders from North Forsyth in a football scrimmage. The varsity defeated North 14 - 7 in the first half, while junior varsity and freshmen players had the opportunity to play in the second half. We had a very supportive crowd, especially our student section all decked out in Neon.
Volleyball begin their season with a split on Thursday night. We defeated West Hall but fell to North Forsyth. The VolleyDawgs will see a lot time on the court this week with two matches during the week and a tournament on Friday and Saturday.
Softball had a tough opening week but look for them to bounce back this week with plenty of game action. They will play six games this week culminating with a triple header on Saturday.

Ultimate Practice

The fastest growing sport in the US has struck ground in
FCHS; ultimate Frisbee. Our Bulldogs have completed their inaugural season,
finishing in the Top Ten in the state. The Squad led by Captain Madison Head
started the Season as a Junior Varsity Team, but after several Varsity teams
forfeited the season the Dawgs were the next best thing. Just half way through
their first season ever, the dawgs are now playing three of the best teams in
the state every week, #1 Paidiea, #2 Lakeside, #4 Brookwood.
Back on April 3rd and 4th the dawgs competed in the AFDC Southeastern Championship "Terminus". After starting the tournament as the 15th seed in Pool A they came away with two huge wins over Gibbons High School (NC), Woodard Academy. Gibbons is a historic program as they are one of the longest running programs in the State of North Carolina if not the southeast. They ended finishing 11th Overall and sealed their ticket to the State Tournament in Conyers, Ga. As they entered the state tournament they had to play against their toughest competition all year as they had to face Paidiea, Lakeside Chamblee, and Rivals Lambert. The Dawgs came away with a huge 11-7 win over Lambert selling their Top Ten bid. Throughout the whole season the Dawg had some huge playmakers, Madison Head led the team in total assists in 37. And senior Micheal Mospanyuk led the team in points at 41. The Team loses great talent in Seniors Jonah Anderson, Harrison Keller, and Micheal Mospanyuk. However, next year, the Dawgs are predicted to solidify their competition for a state title. By: Aaron Bass |
